Best case: Your buyer banks with Citibank Nigeria, Standard Chartered, or Stanbic IBTC. Their LCs carry the parent bank's credit rating - confirmation is routine and pricing is competitive (often under 100 bps).

Good case: Your buyer banks with Access or Zenith (Tier 1 GTFP). IFC guarantees the issuing bank risk, so any of IFC's 200+ global confirming bank partners can confirm. Indicative pricing: 150-250 bps depending on tenor and amount.

Workable: Your buyer banks with another GTFP-listed bank (Sterling, FCMB, Union, Coronation, FSDH, Providus). Same IFC guarantee structure but thinner trade finance volumes and smaller correspondent networks may add 50-150 bps.

Problem: Your buyer banks with a non-GTFP, non-international-parent bank (e.g. Wema, Polaris, Keystone). Confirmation requires a bilateral credit line from the confirming bank to the issuing bank - scarce for mid-tier Nigerian banks post-FATF grey listing. Expect 400-600+ bps if confirmable at all. Consider asking the buyer to switch issuing banks or use open account with trade credit insurance instead.
